Special Olympics

We look forward to hosting the Alpine events at the Special Olympics Ontario Winter Games January 30th and 31.  This has been a big undertaking with races in 3 different disiplines and 3 ability levels being held in 2 days.  The hill will remain open to the public but Slingshot/ Omischl and part of the Beginner hill will be closed during the races.  Closed runs will be open after the races each day.  There will be tents and fences left up in preparation for the next days races.  Preparation work will begin early in the week.  Please use caution on your first run down Slingshot each day this week until you know wher new fences etc are located.  We encourage everyone to come out and cheer on these athletes on Friday and Saturday.  Its going to be a great couple days!

Snowmaking update

We want to appologize for the length of time snowmaking has taken this year.  We started the season with up and down temperatures and weekly rain. Then when January arrived we have had cold weather (still with frequent warm ups) and alot of south west wind.  The problem we have is a light south west wind blows our fog (condensation) towards the Airport.  Over the last 3 weeks we have been called close to 15 times and had to shutdown at least part of the snowmaking system each time.  This has drastically slowed down the snowmaking production.  We will be pushing the remainder of the snow we have made early next week and hope to have all runs open at that time although another 24 hours of snowmaking may be required.  As of Saturday January 24th the remaining terrain to be opened is Jack's Back and the far west side of the top of Maples so almost all the hill is open.
